Plug it in and it works. I hope it holds up better than some of the other reviewers have said.
would not purchase again. tried this as a cheaper solution for the Netgear JGS516. Seller was perfect. did not operate well at all. unit locked up multiple times. product arrived as promised. Not sellers fault product is horrible.
Has been up and running for over 6 months without a problem. Purchased this for our growing network to address problems we were having with cheap switches. This Netgear switch works great and was easy to install. Once we replaced the 2 cheap 8 port switches, all of our problems disappeared. One recommendation is to label your ports right on the switch. Makes for easier troubleshooting and allows for easy replacement of cables.
I purchased one NETGEAR FS116 as a central switch in parallel with a 12-port network punch-down panel in our newly constructed home. Excellent price, no-brainer set-up, and so far, excellent performance. I set up the new switch with a dozen 2-foot Cat5e patch cables, attaching the switch to my utility panel with the provided mounting screws, plugged the unit in, and I was up and running in about 10 minutes total time. As a survivor of the early days of PC networking, it's hard to imagine that things have become this easy and this affordable.
I am very happy with the switch. Plugged it in and in minutes everything was running perfectly. I have had no problems with this or any of the other (~10-15) Netgear ProSafe products we use.
